Elevenses: #inktober octopus tea painting

IMG_6182

Good Morning Ladies and Gentlemen! Well, here I am at last, all painted in up in my favourite hot beverage!

Penny discovered that blending certain teas together actually meant that as they dried they separated again giving that lovely ‘under the sea’ feel to the background. The bottom is blueberry, apple, strawberry and redbush and the top is matcha, seaweed and redbush. I was painted all in redbush this time which has a lovely colour range from yellow to deep reddish brown, then the details, top hat and background were done in layers of coffee. Also some ‘bubbles’ were added with tiny drips of cooking oil before painting.

So, a lot of experimenting and playing about and learning is still going on (and apparently tentacles behave even less well when they are being painted than when they are being drawn!) but I think overall we may be getting better…
