#RainbowSnippets: Jack and Marjory
Happy Saturday! Here’s my #RainbowSnippets post for this week – if you’re new to this, Rainbow Snippets is a chance to read and share 6 lines of LGBTQIA+ fiction every Saturday. There’s a huge variety from Steampunk like mine to Romance, Fantasy, Paranormal, Comedy and everything in between. You can join the fun and read all the other fabulous snippets at the wonderfully friendly and supportive official facebook group here 🙂
We’re back from the Peaks now after some fab down-time with the family and back here in Lancashire it’s starting to feel like spring 😀
So, here is the next snippet from Jack and Marjory – my novella-in-progress which gives two of my Bi-Gendered characters a chance to tell something of their own little side-adventure, which actually had a massive impact on the history of Ire in a ‘behind-the-scenes’ kind of way. This snip is from the start of chapter two so I’ve included the chapter heading quote as well as there are ‘Easter Eggs’ hidden throughout the book linked to the quotes at the start of each chapter.
If you missed last week’s snippet you can catch up here: #RainbowSnippets: Jack and Marjory
If you want to start from the beginning you can do so here: https://blakeandwight.com/2018/09/29/rainbowsnippets-jack-and-marjory/
Jack and Marjory have safely stashed their advance payment, appeased their amorous tailor and are now setting off to pick up the smuggled teaset for Max…
CHAPTER 2
“My soul was singing at a work apart
Behind the wall of sense, as safe from harm
As sings the lark when sucked up out of sight,
In vortices of glory and blue air.”
– Elizabeth Barrett Browning
The Way Of the Roses is an extremely pleasant jaunt if you’re of that stoic breed what thrives on the relentless buffeting of this newly-fangled ‘fresh air’ they bang their drums about at their low teas n bridge parties. That and the perverse self-torture that they glibly labels ‘exercise’.
Well, it’s name might have been pleasant enough but it suited our pins not at all. Nor our lungs. Still we weren’t above taking in the sights as we cursed our way along it under a blue sky, beside the vast, grey Lune; certainly once we’d left the cold brick shoulders of the backs of sandy terraced houses behind us and begun the trek up the valley, with the river our constant companion.
being an entertaining and informative piece of travel writing by a couple of rogues on the run as they attempt to avoid the machinations of wizards, monarchs and a ruthless band of beatnik poets, deflect a civil war and deliver a priceless, historical tea set before the owner finds himself at the gallows.
Wishing you all a most splendiferous week and don’t forget to check in at the #rainbowsnippets facebook group for more fabulous snippets of LGBTQIA+ fiction 🙂

Thankyou! – it is bloomin cold up here in t’North and the river Lune has a different sort of magic it about it to the Thames, which can be said to sparkle and chatter and bubble along while the Lune is like a great grey lady heavy with magic and waiting to pull you into her cold embrace, lol 😉

Fresh air and exercise… It’s a conspiracy, I tell you.

I totally is -who would have thought a career path in the criminal underworld would lead to such evils? Someone should have warned them eh? 😉 lol

Thankyou! Yeah, to say ‘they have a potato farm on their shoulder’ would be more accurate than to call it a chip 😉

Thankyou! Lancashire has some gorgeous scenery to write about both the urban and the countryside 🙂 Shame Jack and Marjory are a little slow to appreciate it, lol, but they’ll get there!

Not a fan of adventure, are they?
Me? I’ll take fresh air over the city any day!

They really are feeling resentful that to make crime pay requires all this effort! lol. And it amuses me that these hardened street kids who could rip you apart in the Hex Ring are thwarted by a bit of fresh air and exercise! I’m the total opposite myself; love the fresh air, the exercise and the adventure!
