#RainbowSnippets: Jack and Marjory

rainbow-flower-1394714-640x480Happy Saturday! Here’s my #RainbowSnippets post for this week – if you’re new to this, Rainbow Snippets is a chance to read and share 6 sentences of LGBTQIA+ fiction every Saturday. There’s a huge variety from Steampunk, like mine, to Romance, Fantasy, Paranormal, Comedy and everything in between. You can join the fun and read all the other fabulous snippets at the wonderfully friendly and supportive official facebook group here 🙂

So, here is the next snippet from Jack and Marjory – my novella-in-progress which gives two of my Bi-Gendered characters a chance to tell something of their own little side-adventure, which actually had a massive impact on the history of Ire in a ‘behind-the-scenes’ kind of way.

If you missed last week’s snippet you can catch up here: #RainbowSnippets: Jack and Marjory

If you want to start from the beginning you can do so here:

Jack has just switched clothes and become Marjory and moved to sit next to a benign looking old woman in order to avoid the unwanted attentions of a potentially sinister stranger. So, yes, for those of you who didn’t already know, Jack is Marjory and Marjory is Jack, they are two people sharing one body… which may lead you to ask who the woman is on the front cover of the book… and on that note it’s not too much of a spoiler to say that anyone who knows the characters of this little world beyond the Jack and Marjory snippets is in for a bit of a shock!  😉 But that will come later, for now let’s get back to the train…

Stepping off the train in York, we took stock of our possibly dire situation. It really wouldn’t do for Marjory to travel alone by cab all the way to Beverley. On he other hand, it might not do for our friendly cream enthusiast / railway-mad-man /badly disguised law
enforcer to catch up with Jack again either.
« You look lost, dear, have you been to York before ? »
The old pussy we’d been rolling along with was suddenly a tour guide.

being an entertaining and informative piece of travel writing by a couple of rogues on the run as they attempt to avoid the machinations of wizards, monarchs and a ruthless band of beatnik poets, deflect a civil war and deliver a priceless, historical tea set before the owner finds himself at the gallows.

Wishing you all a most splendiferous week and don’t forget to check in at the #rainbowsnippets facebook group for more fabulous snippets of LGBTQIA+ fiction 🙂

  1. Ah, that could be just the old lady making conversation…or the pick-up line of every predator who ever looked for the guests to lure into their gingerbread houses. (wry grin)

  2. I’m glad they’re being cautious and not taking everyone at face value.

  4. I’m not sure what’s funnier, him being taken aback about the old woman playing tour guide or we readers assuming the old woman is going to do them harm.

Lol, that means a lot as it’s that sort of playoff I’m aiming for throughout … so huge thanks for that 🙂

  5. I’m laughing at the end, but I’m also completely suspicious of this woman!

It always pays to be suspicious especially around ‘nice little old ladies’ 😉
