#RainbowSnippets: Jack and Marjory

Happy Saturday! Here’s my #RainbowSnippets post for this week – if you’re new to this, Rainbow Snippets is a chance to read and share 6 sentences of LGBTQIA+ fiction every Saturday. There’s a huge variety from Steampunk, like mine, to Romance, Fantasy, Paranormal, Comedy and everything in between. You can join the fun and read all the other fabulous snippets at the wonderfully friendly and supportive official facebook group here 🙂

So, here is the next snippet from Jack and Marjory – my novella-in-progress which gives two of my Bi-Gendered characters a chance to tell something of their own little side-adventure, which actually had a massive impact on the history of Ire in a ‘behind-the-scenes’ kind of way.

If you missed last week’s snippet you can catch up here: #RainbowSnippets: Jack and Marjory

If you want to start from the beginning you can do so here: https://blakeandwight.com/2018/09/29/rainbowsnippets-jack-and-marjory/

This snippet is a bit longer than 6 sentences, sorry, (cringe!) but in my defence it is highly educational … if you ever have to lock yourself in a bathroom … and semi-autobiographical (see if you can guess which bit, lol) … and wouldn’t make sense if I cut it any shorter… sorry…. a-hem…

We waited until she was well out of sight then walked off in the opposite diresction. We soon found somewhere ; The Regency Coach House. Here Marjory went into the powder room and locked it from the inside with two bobbies.

It’s an easy thing to do if you have the patience ; first you straighten out the hair pin as best you can, the straighter the better right ? Then you ease just the tip of it – about a cm – into the lock. Now you wants to bend the pin down into a right angle. Done. Now you takes your second pin and put the closed end into the lock, about 2-3cms this time, and again you bend that up into a right angle, this’ll be your ‘bar.’

Insert the bar into the lock again as far as you can and apply just the right ammount of pressure. There are metal pins inside that cylinder and they’ll all be up if the door is open, but if you slide your straigtened bobbi now into the lock above your bar, you can work it up and down until you free each pin from its barrel.

One or two will be enough to hold a door ; it’s a very useful trick to know, certainly we found it useful when we first got free of the pits and hadn’t even heard of Kitty Flynn. Back then on cold nights we’d climb up the drainpipe of house and in through a bathroom window, then we’d lock the door from the inside and sleep in the tub, unlocking it again before we left in the morning of course.

Lol, I hope you’ll forgive the length of this one and found it informative – it always annoys me in films when someone sticks a hairpin in a lock and suddenly the lock opens when in reality it’s a bit more complicated! 😉

JACKANDMARJORYCOVER

being an entertaining and informative piece of travel writing by a couple of rogues on the run as they attempt to avoid the machinations of wizards, monarchs and a ruthless band of beatnik poets, deflect a civil war and deliver a priceless, historical tea set before the owner finds himself at the gallows.

Wishing you all a most splendiferous week and don’t forget to check in at the #rainbowsnippets facebook group for more fabulous snippets of LGBTQIA+ fiction 🙂
